    What is a Complete Meal?

A school lunch offers five components regulated by federal guidelines.

They are:

  • Breads and /or grains – such as rice, barley, quinoa, a hamburger bun, pizza      crust or breadstick
  • Meat/meat alternative – for example, cheese/nuts/beans/yogurt/soybeans/or peanut butter
  • Fruits and Vegetables – a serving of juice or a piece of fruit and a vegetable.
  • Milk – an 8 oz., serving.

The USDA strictly specifies portion size, minimum calorie, vitamin, nutrient, fat and sodium content of each school meal.  Parents, please help your child understand that they must choose any three components to receive student meal pricing, however, we encourage all five be chosen.
